RoundCube Webmail is a browser-based multilingual IMAP client with an application-like user interface (AJAX). It provides full functionality you expect from an e-mail client, including MIME support, address book, folder manipulation and message filters. RoundCube Webmail is written in PHP and requires the MySQL database. The user interface is fully skinnable using XHTML and CSS 2. The project is Open Source.

Paul Thurrott has written a thorough beta preview of Kahuna, Microsoft’s next generation Hotmail.

MSN describes Kahuna as an incubation project that has been built from the ground up utilizing the latest Web technologies, such as AJAX, a Web application architecture that combines HTML/Dynamic HTML (DHTML) with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), XML, and other technologies. These technologies are used to emulate the type of experience users get with traditional Windows-based email applications, such as Outlook and Outlook Express, but in a browser-based Web environment. Too, MSN has collected the experiences Microsoft has had creating various email solutions, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Exchange Server, and Outlook Web Access (OWA) to ensure that Kahuna is as elegant and powerful as possible.

Cyrus Daboo, the creator of Mulberry and Cyrusoft has announced that his company has filed for bancrupcy:

“It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the immediate cessation of operations of Cyrusoft International, Inc./ISAMET. The company today filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.”

“The possibility of open sourcing the code is also limited due to dependencies on third-party code and development tools that would require some significant reworking to make it viable for anyone to even compile and use. And with the number of other open source clients that exist now, one would have to ask whether there would be any point to that anyway.”

This is a sad day, Mulberry was the most powerful IMAP email client around. In case you want to download the final releases, you can do so at this page.

A stable version of MailScanner has been released. SpamAssassin 3.1.0 is supported better, and a few minor features and bug fixes have been made.
