Thunderbird is a free open source, cross-platform email client which has quickly gained huge popularity, with a reason. It is extremely easy to use, fairly powerful and robust. Backed by the open source community and having a good extension framework, this is the client that can have it all.
eM Client is a Windows based Communication Client for managing e-mails, multiple calendars, contacts and tasks. It contains integrated Instant Messaging for Jabber, ICQ and support for Skype with full Communication History. The developers vision is to create an exceptional client application that can compete with MS Outlook, Sametime and GroupWise aggregating Communication platforms, that were never before combined into one unique solution. It is being developed as a user friendly alternative to existing e-mail clients and calendar solutions (MS Outlook, Thunderbird, The Bat!).
Mulberry: Mulberry is probably the most powerful email client around. It has been designed with IMAP in mind, but provides excellent POP support too. It does require some time to get used to, but it is well worth the effort.
Pegasus Mail has been around since 1991 which makes it one of the oldest surviving email clients today. It is the most powerful and robust free client available. Its only weak point is the somewhat unusual UI, but if you need email power for free and don't mind the looks, this is the client for you.
FoxMail is a fast and powerful email client. Apart from POP3, it supports Hotmail and Yahoo mail straight from the box, comes with spam filtering, management of messages on a remote server, good international language support (it is created by a Chinese person) and even comes with integrated support for SMS. It doesn't support IMAP.
Pine is a robust, fast and flexible command line client with excellent IMAP support.
Eudora is a popular, free/adware, solid email client for Windows and Mac OS X. It is robust and extremely customizable, but many find its interface nonintuitive. It is also one of the bloatest clients around. The free versions come without a spam filter.
IncrediMail is a very popular client among people who like sending fancy looking emails. It allows you to select from hundreds of email backgrounds that fit any mood or occasion, insert emoticons, animations, handwritten signatures, sounds and also provides a voice message recorder.
nPOPuk is an ultra-small, but comprehensive, e-mail client that runs on a wide range of Windows-based operating systems, including Windows Mobile.
